Southside Transit Center

To help StarMetro ensure public transportation is accessible, efficient and equitable, The City of Tallahassee has identified construction of a Southside Transit Center (SSTC) on the northwest corner of Orange Avenue and South Meridian Street as a strategic initiative. The SSTC will be a major step in assuring Tallahassee has an efficient transit network supported by leading public transit services. This parcel of land is located within the larger Orange/Meridian Placemaking Project, including stormwater improvements and other related infrastructure needs. These combined efforts in combination with increased service and transit amenities provided by the SSTC will improve economic, education, residential and business opportunities for the Southside and Tallahassee at large.

The City of Tallahassee Underground Utilities and Public Infrastructure department is planning utility and infrastructure improvements along Seventh Avenue between Centerville Road and N. Gadsden Street.

Paddrick-Dutchess Flood Relief Project

The City of Tallahassee is committed to improving stormwater infrastructure and reducing flood risk in neighborhoods throughout the community. As part of this effort, the City is addressing stormwater concerns in the Killearn Estates neighborhood, specifically along Paddrick Drive and Dutchess Court.

Sidewalk improvements along Waverly Road that will enhance safety and mobility in the area. This project will incorporate a sidewalk along the full length of Waverly Road on the north side of the road, from Meridian Road on the west to Thomasville Road on the east.

Hillcrest & Lucy Streets Stormwater Improvements Project - Updated 3/12/2025

A flood is starting to drown an old car

The City of Tallahassee is actively working to address stormwater issues in the Brockswood Park, Old Town, Brookwood Drive, and Inglewood neighborhoods. To help alleviate flooding, reduce erosion, and alleviate property damage, the City is proposing improvements in the Devil’s Dip Ravine near Cobb Middle School.

Virginia Street Water and Sewer Improvements

The City is currently designing an underground utility project along a portion of Virginia Street to modernize and enhance aging infrastructure, which will add capacity within the water and sewer systems while reducing service interruptions.

Rollins Street – Bennett Street – W. 6th Avenue Sidewalk Project

To enhance safety and mobility options in the area, the City of Tallahassee is in the planning stage for sidewalk improvements along Rollins Street from Old Bainbridge Road to Bennett Street, Bennett Street from Rollins Street to W. Sixth Avenue, and W. Sixth Avenue from Bennett Street to Old Bainbridge Road.

Monroe Street Downtown Sidewalk Enhancements

The City of Tallahassee is preparing sidewalk plans for Monroe Street from Jefferson Street to Call Street. The project will widen the existing sidewalk, reconstruct on-street parking, add handicap parking, remove and replace all street trees, improve ADA access, and replace existing streetlights.

The City is gathering information related to the replacement of potable water infrastructure within portions of the Wednesday Street corridor between Potts Road and Capital Circle NE.

FAMU Way Phase IV

The City of Tallahassee is preparing plans for FAMU Way Phase IV, which begins just west of S. Bronough Street and ends at S. Monroe Street. The City of Tallahassee is gathering information related to the replacement of potable water infrastructure within portions of the Old Bainbridge Road corridor between Tharpe Road and Fred George Road.

International Passenger Processing Facility

At its Oct. 26, 2022, meeting, the City Commission authorized the City of Tallahassee’s Underground Utility and Public Infrastructure department to proceed with the extension of water and sewer utility infrastructure into the unserved areas of the Southside Triangle.

Redevelopment of Northwood Centre Parcel

The Northwood Centre site is undergoing redevelopment by the City of Tallahassee. Sitting on approximately 29.5 acres, the site is bordered by North Monroe Street, North Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Tharpe Street. A key component within this redevelopment is construction of the new headquarters facility for the Tallahassee Police Department. Additionally, the site presents opportunities for new green space, community amenities and other economic development projects.

Pinewood Drive and Delta Office Park Stormwater Outfall Project

The City of Tallahassee’s Pinewood Drive and Delta Office Park Stormwater Outfall Project is designed to reduce residential flooding and erosion problems that have historically affected properties in the area. The City is also using this opportunity to upgrade the underground utilities and repave the asphalt in the areas of the stormwater construction.

Enhanced Traffic Safety Project for Pensacola Street and St. Augustine Road

The City of Tallahassee is implementing enhanced traffic safety measures along the Pensacola Street and St. Augustine Road corridors near Florida State University’s campus. This project was developed in coordination with FSU, and changes include speed limit reductions, new pedestrian infrastructure, enhanced signage and construction of speed tables and raised intersections.

Smoke Testing of Sewer Lines

As part of its continued commitment to enhance wastewater infrastructure and protect the environment, the City of Tallahassee's Underground Utilities began smoke testing around the community in January. This routine, preventative maintenance test will help identify potential points of unwanted inflow and infiltration in the sewer system, thereby improving wastewater treatment operations and efficiency.

Providence Heart of the Hills Placemaking

The Providence Heart of the Hills Placemaking project encompasses the addition of sidewalks and street trees on Highland Street, Hillsborough Street, and Lake Avenue. Additionally, the intersections of Lake Avenue & Highland Street and Lake Avenue & Hillsborough Street will be repaved with decorative asphalt.

Saxon Street Streetscape Project

The main purpose of this project is to construct a sidewalk along Saxon Street from the existing sidewalk on Campbell Street to Floral Street and improve the landscaping from Orange Avenue to Floral Street. This project is part of the adopted Greater Bond Neighborhood First Plan and represents an important investment in our community.

Park Avenue Ditch Stabilization at Blair Stone Road Bridge

Park Avenue Ditch Stabilization

The Park Avenue Ditch Stabilization Project will address erosion and improve maintenance access along the Park Avenue drainage ditch, starting just east of the Redwood Drive/Inglewood Drive intersection and ending just east of the Blair Stone Road Bridge.

As part of its commitment to ensuring reliable service, the City of Tallahassee is planning a utility improvement project in the Oak Ridge South neighborhood. The project includes the replacement of approximately 3,700 linear feet of existing potable water mains, fire hydrants, and other components.

This will allow the City to continue providing reliable, quality water service for area residents for years to come.

Georgia Street Drainage & Infrastructure Improvements Project

As part of its commitment to ensuring reliable service, the City of Tallahassee performed a utility improvement project along West Georgia Street to replace aging infrastructure. The project replaced approximately 2,000 linear feet of existing water mains, 1,600 linear feet of sewer mains and included the installation of 1,600 linear feet of storm drainage pipes.

Call Street Water Valve Replacement Project

Downtown Sewer and Water Projects

The City’s North Monroe & Call Street Water Valve Replacement Project included replacing aging water valves in the intersection of North Monroe Street and Call Street and the intersection of Adams Street and Call Street. Collectively, these investments support the City’s commitment to be a leader in utility service delivery and to proactively address issues related to aging infrastructure.

Balkin Road and Center Drive Water Main Replacement

The City of Tallahassee completed a water main replacement project along Balkin Road and Center Drive. The project included construction of a new 8-inch water main, water services and meters to replace the existing system currently serving the area, as well as replacement of existing fire hydrants and the addition of a few new ones to increase fire protection coverage. The new water facilities are intended to result in reduced utility maintenance activities, improved system capacity and reliability, and increased fire protection.

Zillah PASS Project

Zillah PASS

The Zillah Street Pedestrian and Street Safety (PASS) project will enclose the open ditch running alongside the roadway and create improvements to pedestrian connectivity. Construction on the project began in April 2023.
