Tallahassee Police Department Swears In 24 New Officers as It Celebrates 200 Years

The Tallahassee Police Department proudly welcomed its first class of 24 officers of 2026 following their Swearing-In Ceremony on January 30. The event carried special significance as it kicked off the start of the department's bicentennial year, marking 200 years of service to the Tallahassee community. After completing in-house training, these officers were formally sworn in and officially began their service to the Tallahassee community.

This class brings a wide range of experience and backgrounds, including one officer continuing a family legacy of law enforcement, five with prior military service, four with previous law-enforcement experience, and one officer holding a PhD. Their dedication and performance were evident at the academy, where TPD officers earned six of the eight awards presented, reflecting excellence across multiple disciplines.

Chief Lawrence E. Revell said, "Welcoming the first class of officers of 2026 at the start of the bicentennial year is a meaningful moment for the Tallahassee Police Department. These officers represent the next generation of public servants who will carry forward our longstanding principles of trust, loyalty and commitment into the next 200 years."

The Tallahassee Police Department stands as one of the oldest accredited police departments in the nation, dedicated to serving the citizens of Tallahassee since 1826. With nearly 600 members, the department is unwavering in its commitment to providing excellent service to the community.
